The 4th TFS had been transferred to DaNang from the 33rdTFW at Eglin AFB, Florida on 12 April and had been operating in Southeast Asia for four months before it suffered its first casual¬ties.

Capt White and Capt Morton were assigned to attack enemy lines of communications in hilly terrain 30 miles southwest of Da Nang.

As the aircraft came in low to drop napalm, it was hit by 12.7mm anti-aircraft fire and crashed before either of the crew could escape.

- as a cadet, served as a flight commander with the rank of Cadet Capt.
- 1968, earned his MBA in Computer Science at Texas A&M University under the AFIT program
- in high school, was an Eagle Scout and earned a $200 scholarship from the Civitan Club for an essay he wrote on citizenship
- previously served as a navigator for the 40th Troop Carrier Squadron at Evreux-Fauville AFB, France (1961-4) and the Reconnaissance branch 314th A.O. at Osan AB, Korea (1965-6)
- memorial fund went towards purchase of one of the large Roll of Honor plaques
- name is also on the USAFA War Memorial
