EDNA - Milam Travis Simons Jr., 96, of Edna, died Thursday, July 21, 2005. He was born Sept. 15, 1908, in Edna, to the late M. T. Sr. and Regina S. Gayle Simons. He was a retired county clerk for Jackson County, a retired rice farmer, and a member of First United Methodist Church and the Rotary Club. Two years ago he was recognized as the oldest World War II veteran in Jackson County. He served in the Army, 381st Combat Battalion in the European Campaign. Survivors: daughters, Dorothy Catherine Boetge of New Braufels and Doris Regina Fassino of Edna son, M. T. ""Tab"" Simons III of Edna sister, Catherine Shoemate of Edna five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: wife, Dorothy Koop Simons sister, Regina Stall and brother, Archie Gayle Simons. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at Slavik Funeral Home chapel. Services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Edna, the Rev. Joe Ray officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens of Edna. Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2152. Memorials: Trustee Fund, First United Methodist Church, Edna.
