Mr. Vernon L. Yanta passed away on August 5, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 10, 1939 in Runge, Texas to the late John Andrew Yanta and Mary (Pollok) Yanta. Mr. Yanta recieved his bachelors degree from Texas A&M University and served in the United States Air Force. He also served on the Runge ISD school board and the Ecleto Creek Watershed Committee for many years. Vernon married Valida "Val" (Gagne) Yanta on July 10, 1965. He is survived by his beloved wife Val T. Yanta; children, Jim (Laurette) Yanta of Poth, Bruce Yanta of Houston, Michael (Carrie) Yanta of Sugarland, Steven Yanta of Floresville, Eric (Suzi) Yanta of Spicewood, Karen (Alan) Watson of Sugarland, John Yanta of Runge and Sharon (Jason) Hans of Boerne; fourteen grandchildren; sister, Valeria Ebeier and by his brothers, Ernest Yanta, Wilfred Yanta, Bishop John Yanta and Joe James Yanta. He was preceded in death by parents and brothers Edwin and Fabian Yanta. Visitation will begin on Thursday August 7, 2014 at 5:00 pm at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Runge. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Thursday at the church. A funeral mass will be held on Friday August 8, 2014 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Runge at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in the Runge Catholic Cemetery with military honors. Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Yanta, Bruce Yanta, Michael Yanta, Steven Yanta, Eric Yanta, John Yanta and Garrett Yanta. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Reiman, David Reynolds, Zachary Yanta, Kenneth Foster, Bobby Ebeier ,Sandy Ebeier and Gene Vaughan. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Home.
