A drowsy driver is being blamed for a head-on crash that killed a 62-year old Graytown man July 9 and sent two victims to area hospitals. The crash occurred at approximately 6 p.m. at the intersection of F.M. 2579 and C.R. 126 near Graytown.
The identity of the deceased, who was driving a Honda Pilot sport-utility vehicle, is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin. His wife, a passenger in the vehicle, was flown from the scene to the San Antonio Military Medical Center.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Sgt. Lynn Floyd, the preliminary investigation indicates that 21-year-old Eddie Overstreet of Lacassas, Tenn. was driving southbound on F.M. 2579 in a Dodge Ram pickup truck when he reportedly fell
asleep. This caused the truck to veer into the northbound lane and collide with the Honda. Overstreet also was flown from the scene.
DPS troopers were at the scene conducting their investigation more than two hours later, as the roadway remained shut down.
Update (7/10/14): The deceased has been identified as 62-year-old Mark Sorenson. His wife, Mary, is in serious condition at University Hospital, according to officials.
