Obituary for Robert O. Petty
Brigadier General Robert O. "Bob" Petty, 82, of Philpott Drive, Bassett, Virginia, is now absent in body and present with the Lord. General Petty passed away on Friday, March 4, at home.
General Petty was born July 25, 1933, in Graham, Texas to the late Alford and Grace Agnes Petty. In addition to his parents, General Petty was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia "Pat" Petty, two daughters, Lynn P. Payne and husband John; Suzanne P. Fuhrmeister; two sons, Robert Mark Petty and wife Kelly; and Samuel Reed Petty and wife Joanie; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, and a sister, Allie Grace Hodges.
The Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, March 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Stanleytown United Methodist Church with Pastor David Westmoreland officiating. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Roselawn Burial Park immediately following the service with full military honors.
