John E. "Andy" Wilkins III, 74, of Denison, passed away peacefully on Dec. 24, 2021 at his home.
Andy was born Sept. 4, 1947 to Dr. John E. Wilkins, Jr. and Elizabeth Hughes Wilkins in Greenville, Texas. After graduating from high school in Greenville, he went on to Texas A&M and joined the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 1970, where he completed his bachelor's
degree in finance.
In addition to his position as finance director for the City of Denison, where he served for more than 33 years, he was heavily involved in various community organizations such as the Denison Education Foundation and Denison Development Alliance.
Andy loved young people and being a part of Denison positive economic growth.
If you were fortunate enough to know Andy, you knew he had a story for every occasion. He would often have you laughing after the words, "Hey, there was this one time ..." He enjoyed being around his family and his friends. He was normally the center of attention
and loved to talk. The only time you shouldn't talk to Andy is if his Aggies were playing football.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed losing golf balls on any course he chose to play. Andy had a great sense of humor and an even greater heart, especially for his family and friends.
Andy will be missed deeply, but not forgotten.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Hughes Wilkins.
He is survived by his wife Wrynn Wilkins, daughters Andrea Ferreira '01 and son-in-law Justin of Weatherford, and Angie Kelly '03 and son-in-law Travis of Magnolia, as well as his grandchildren Maxton and Korbyn Ferreira, and Luke and Hallie Kelly.
Pallbearers will be Mark Kuneman, Tim Parker, Danny Sulser, Mike Ruebeck, Newman Peters, Tyler Sulser, and Kyle Milford.
A celebration of life will be held in Denison on Jan. 7 at First Christian Church - 800 W. Woodard, Denison, TX 75020.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. and a visitation and reception will follow. Services will be officiated by Rev. Drew Svendsen, Mr. Tom Akins and Mr. Robert Hempkins.
Andy will be laid to rest alongside his mother, father, brother, and grandmother in Greenville, Texas on Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. at Forest Park Cemetery - 5605 South Business Hwy 69, Greenville, TX 75402, with Mr. Randy Tarpley officiating.
