Dr. Aubrey Joseph Serewicz

Dr. Aubrey Joseph Serewicz, 95 years of age, loving husband for 58 years of the late Catherine Mary Loftus Serewicz; and dear father of Irene (Christian) Redman, Anne Serewicz, Teresa Serewicz, Cormac (Mary Claire) Loftus, Lawrence Serewicz, Timothy (Julie) Serewicz; dearest grandfather of Augustus and Alexander Redman; Anastasia, Kevin, and Celine Pierron, and Philip Serewicz-Movery; Matthew, Julia, Evangeline, and Phillip James Loftus; Zachary and Eleanore Serewicz; and Timothy James Serewicz; dearest son of the late Albert Edward Serewicz, Sr., and Caroline Grzegoszka-Gordon; fond brother of the late Albert (late Donna), late Anthony (Dolores), Dorothy (late Thomas) Gordon, late Caroline (late Henry) Schwartzfeger and Joan Kusher; loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Aubrey was a life-long learner who loved science, chemistry, and history. He earned a BS in Chemistry from St. Joseph’s in Rensselaer, IN, a Master of Science in Chemistry from Loyola University Chicago, a Master of Science in Chemistry from University of Rochester, a PhD. in Physical Chemistry from Texas A&M University and a post-doctoral fellowship at Ames Laboratory, Iowa State University. He was a professor of Chemistry at Northern Illinois University and worked at Baxter Laboratories and Illinois Tool Works, as well as AHP-Wyeth Laboratory. He published numerous scientific abstracts and articles and was awarded a US Patent for a chemical fastener that addressed several challenges within the aerospace industry. Aubrey was active in the community as a troop leader for St. Mary’s Cub Scout Pack 173 and worked on the preservation of the brick roads in DeKalb. After retirement, he went onto to study nutrition and author and publish a book on diet, nutrition, and exercise.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Christ the Teacher University Parish, 512 Normal Rd. in DeKalb with Fr. Kyle Manno celebrating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeKalb.
Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 28 at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, IL. 815-756-1022
