Kathryn Amelia Hernandez
September 22, 1990 - May 14, 2021
Kathryn Amelia Hernandez (1990-2021) was a proud alumnus of Joshua High School and Texas A&M University. More than that, Kathryn, fondly known to her family and many friends as “Katie”, was a woman of superior insight, intellect, empathy, and charm.
Katie consistently demonstrated her passion for service in all aspects of her academic and professional career. Throughout high school, Katie challenged herself with advanced coursework and succeeded in graduating early to begin her college studies. She was
also a dedicated officer for the National Honors Society and an active Athletic Trainer for several varsity sports. Always self-aware, Katie identified her passion for psychology early in her baccalaureate career, which uniquely suited her gift mix of intellectual
pursuit, empathy, and interpersonal skills. During college, Katie became involved with the Pat Tillman Foundation, where she cultivated a passion for supporting Veterans and their families that she maintained for the rest of her life. Katie advanced her abilities
in graduate school, ultimately applying her mental health knowledge and skills as a teacher and then as a member of the Burleson ISD Psych Team, with a focus on social and emotional learning.
Katie passed away from cancer in May 2021, serving her students until her last weeks. In honor of Katie’s zeal for service-oriented leadership and academic excellence, her friends and loved ones have established the Kathryn Amelia Hernandez Memorial
Scholarship to help support Joshua High School seniors in their academic pursuits. All graduating seniors will be eligible to apply and will be selected by a committee using holistic academic and extracurricular criteria. Our goal is to provide two $500 scholarships
in the 2021 academic school year with plans to continue the scholarship opportunity in the coming years. All donations will go directly to the scholarship.
We appreciate your support in the inaugural year of the Kathryn Amelia Hernandez Memorial Scholarship, as we honor Katie’s legacy as a scholar, a servant, a leader, and a friend.
