Terry P. Archer
April, 1946 - May 18, 2022
Terry Archer, 76 years old, passed away at Avow Hospice on May 18, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Denise, his daughter Stacy Bartels (Greg), and granddaughters Ella and Zoe.
Terry was born in Texas in 1946. He was the beloved son of Colonel John and Betty Archer. Coming from a military family, he lived in numerous places in the states and out of the country. He graduated from Texas A&M, an all male military school at the time, in 1968, with a management degree. Upon graduation, he was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Army.
While in the service, Terry spent 13 months in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After leaving the service as Captain, Terry began a 30 year career in real estate development. First in Houston, then in Naples in 1988 where he was Executive Vice President of Westinghouse Community and President of Bay Colony Development. In Naples he was instrumental in the development of Pelican Bay, Bay Colony, Pelican Marsh and Pelican Landing.
Terry's interests included upland bird hunting and fishing, particularly saltwater fly fishing. He caught the grand slam in 2017 in Belize which meant he caught a permit, a bonefish and tarpon all in one trip.
Terry took up golf at the age of 15 and went to Texas A&M on a golf scholarship. He was the Southwest Conference champion in 1967 while a junior. He has been club Champion at six golf clubs, has made nine hole in ones and shot his age or better over 100 times. His latest and greatest title was Chairman of the Porch at Hideout Golf Club, a course which he developed in 1999.
Terry, hope you find smooth waters to fish and a wonderful heavenly golf course to play with your parents. Here's to a life well lived with family and friends and your doodle Sadie. A celebration of life will be scheduled in both Naples and Blowing Rock at a future date. In lieu of flowers, Terry's request was for each of you to thank a vet.
