Douglas Van Fleet "Van" Adamson
September 26, 1930 - March 25, 2023
Mr. Adamson was born September 26, 1930 in Houston. He spent his early life in College Station, TX where his father was the swimming coach.
Van was a champion swimmer in high school and college, setting 5 records and he continued to share his swimming ability and experience with his children. Sailing on White Rock Lake was especially meaningful to him and his family. His proudest honor was knowing his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are honorable and respectful human beings.
Mr. Adamson earned his Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Texas A&M and his Masters from SMU.
Upon an honorable discharge from the US Air Force in 1952, Van began his business career with IBM, working for eleven years before pursuing several executive positions with other notable data processing companies.
Mr. Adamson was active in the Arabian horse racing community and achieved significant success as a small breeder, exporting stallions to Venezuela and Poland.
Van is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marsha Kelfer; his four children: Doug Adamson (Beverly) of Durant, OK, Elaine Morris (Joe) of Amarillo, Mary Adamson of Dallas, Marshall Adamson of Dallas; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
A family graveside will be held at College Station.
