John Beasley was born on February 5, 1944, in Texarkana, Ark. to Sam and Grace Beasley. He was raised in Kildare, Texas. John was a standout basketball player at Linden-Kildare High School, earning All-State Honors and leading his team to an undefeated State Title in 1960.
He was recruited by numerous colleges across the nation, including the University of Kentucky. Ultimately, John chose to attend Texas A&M because of the great Aggie Spirit and strong Traditions.
During his basketball career at Aggieland, John set numerous scoring and rebounding records for A&M and the Southwest Conference. He earned multiple conference Player of the Year awards and also received All-American honors. Some records still stand today and can be seen on display in the Hall of Champions at Kyle Field.
Following college, John played seven years professionally for the Dallas Chaparrals and Utah Stars of the American Basketball Association. Again, his talent earned him multiple All-Pro honors and also the Most Valuable Player award in the 1969 ABA All Star game.
Upon retiring from basketball, John worked in sales and management for two national companies. Again, his work ethic earned him Salesman of the Year awards for both companies.
Additional honors John received were his induction into the Texas A&M Hall of Fame in September 1976, member of the Texas A&M All-Time basketball team, the Southwest Conference All Sixty-Year basketball team, and the UIL State basketball All-100 year team.
He was most proud to have been the first basketball player Texas A&M chose to name as their Southeastern Conference Legend award recipient in 2013.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice, and their three children, Kim and husband Vince Hufford, Bart and wife Patty Beasley, and Rodney and wife Jennifer Beasley.
