Christopher Allen Bailey 

October 29, 1959 - July 22, 2023 

Christopher Allen Bailey was born in Dayton, Ohio on October 29, 1959. He passed unexpectedly on July 22, 2023, from a head injury sustained during a fall.

He graduated from Bangor High School in 1977. He received undergraduate degrees in history (1987) and also economics (1991) from the University of Maine. He obtained his Ph.D. in economics from Texas A&M University, College Station, in 2001. He taught at Texas A&M between 1991-2000 while earning his Ph.D.

He became a professor of economics at Central Michigan University in 2000 and retired in 2021. His primary research interests were money and banking, especially historical research into banking in Michigan.

He was an engineer in the Maine Army National Guard for many years in the 1980s and early 1990s and obtained the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He was a member of Company B 262nd Engineer Battalion (Combat) (Corps) out of Belfast, Maine.

He was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Michigan, serving among other assignments, treasurer for several years. He will be sorely missed.

His favorite pastimes were hiking, kayaking, military planes and vessels, and traveling. He especially loved trees, both in their natural state and in the yard. He planted many in the yard at his home in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, USA.

He donated all possible organs and tissues to Michigan Gift of Life. Many will benefit from his gifts including gifts of lungs, liver, and kidneys. Other additional gifts of tissues were also made.

He is survived by those who love him, his wife, Nancy J. White, of Mt. Pleasant, MI; his mother, Betsy Bailey, his sister Carol Bailey, his brother, James Bailey and wife Theresa Bailey, and their children Jackson Bailey and his wife Abby, Keaton Bailey, and Sara Bailey, all of Tucson, AZ.

Per Chris' wishes, cremation has taken place at Daisy Hill Crematory in Mt. Pleasant. A Celebration of Chris' Life service will take place on September 23, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Gift of Life. Envelopes will be available at Clark Family Funeral Chapel and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Michigan.
