Phillip Worthington Grant died peacefully in his sleep December 22nd, 2023, at his home in Brawley, CA.
A long time educator and coach, Grant was born and raised in Los Angeles, where he graduated from Hamilton High School. He went on to attend Texas A&M University, earning both a BA and MA degree in history. He served in the United States Army 3rd Infantry Division from 1959-1961. He coached basketball, football, baseball and track during a 40-plus-year career at both high school and collegiate levels at schools in Texas, Oregon, and California. He arrived in Brawley in 1989 and was Brawley Union High School's basketball coach for 14 years. He also coached at Southwest High School in El Centro, for two years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy and Clifford Grant of Los Angeles and his brother Glen Grant of Honolulu.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Grant of Brawley, his son Christopher Grant of Austin, TX, his daughter Amy Grant Blackwell of Melissa, TX, his three grandchildren, Everette Blackwell, Sadie Blackwell and Eliana Grant and his sister, Pamela Berson of Los Angeles.
The family would like to thank Accent Care Hospice and At Peace Home Care for their kind and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, Westmorland Community Presbyterian Church or Brawley Feed the Need.
Viewing will be Friday, January 5th, 6-8 PM at Frye Chapel in Brawley.
Service is January 6th at 10 AM at the Stockman's Club in Brawley with a reception to follow.
Burial will be January 12th at 11 AM at the National Cemetery in Grand Prairie, TX.
