David Than Richburg 

August 21, 1938 - January 2, 2024 

David "Than" Richburg, of Grapeland, Texas, joined his wife in Heaven on Tuesday, the 2nd day of January 2024. He was 85 years of age when the Lord called him home. Mr. Richburg was born on the 21st day of August 1938, in Roscoe, Texas, to parents Christo Richburg and Charlsie Cleckler Richburg. His life was a testament to the values of hard work, faith, and family, which he embodied until his last breath.

Mr. Richburg proudly served his country in the United States Army, a period of his life that instilled in him a lifelong sense of discipline and commitment.

His academic pursuits led him to earn his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University, further equipping him for a life of meaningful contributions to his community and nation.

For over five decades, Mr. Richburg was an active member of the Farm Bureau, where he not only shared his expertise but also shaped the future of farming through his leadership, serving as president for an impressive thirty years. His passion for the land extended to his personal life, where he found joy and purpose in working on his farm and ranching. This connection to the earth was a cornerstone of who he was, a man who cultivated life in all its forms.

A faithful member of the First Baptist Church, Mr. Richburg carried his spirituality with grace and humility. His service as a Deacon for many years reflected his deep and abiding faith. He was a pillar of his church community, offering guidance and support to all who sought it. His faith was not just a part of his life; it was the lens through which he viewed the world and his place in it.

Mr. Richburg's life was rich with interests that spoke to the character of the man. He was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren, celebrating their achievements and milestones with the enthusiasm only a devoted father and grandfather could. A voracious reader, he had a particular fondness for Western novels, with Louis L'Amour as his favorite author. His wisdom was a beacon for many, as he was known to give great advice that was both practical and heartfelt. Mr. Richburg had a unique ability to make everyone feel loved and welcomed, always with a smile. His journey on this earth may have concluded, but his legacy will continue to flourish through the lives he touched and the memories he created.

Mr. Richburg is preceded in death by his parents, wife Carmen Dailey Richburg, brother Zane Richburg, and his sister Cristal AlJoe.

He is survived by his four sons who will carry forward the lessons of integrity, generosity, and love that their father embodied: David Richburg and Sheila, of Katy, Texas, Jason Richburg and Scherri, of Trapper Creek, Alaska, Brandon Richburg and Niki, of Grapeland, Texas, Rustin Richburg and Jeff Monk, of Cedar Grove, New Jersey. He also leaves behind his six grandchildren, Dylan Douglas, Madison Richburg, Kadie Richburg, Dawson Richburg, Callie Hill and husband Brigham, and Ashlon Richburg, and his brother, Walt Richburg.

On Sunday, January 7, 2024, from four o'clock until six o'clock in the evening, friends are invited to a visitation with the family in the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church in Grapeland.

A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Richburg's life is to be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 8th day of January 2024, in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Grapeland. Bro. David Bradley will be officiating the service. Interment will follow in Dailey Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are David Richburg, Jason Richburg, Brandon Richburg, Rustin Richburg, Jeff Monk, Dylan Douglas, Dawson Richburg, and Brigham Hill.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Richburg can be directed towards the Frank Dailey Scholarship Fund, Grapeland State Bank, 122 Main St., Grapeland, Texas 75844.
