Janice Childs Weikert

November 16, 1964 - July 6, 2024

Janice Childs Weikert, age 59, of Oak Point, Texas, passed away July 6, 2024, in Dallas, Texas after a year-long battle with cancer.

Janice was born November 16, 1964, in Arlington, Texas to Russell and Lynda Childs. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Grace Lutheran Church in Arlington, Texas and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Denton, Texas. Following her graduation from James Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas in 1983, Janice attended Texas A&M University, graduating in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Analysis.

After college, Janice worked as a software support and training analyst for HEC, Baker & Botts and as an independent consultant. In 1997, Janice began her career in service to her community, her church, and her family. Her passion was being a full-time stay-at-home mom. Janice was an enthusiastic volunteer for both Jack’s and Hannah’s many endeavors from kindergarten through graduation serving as PTA President, room mother, Girl Scout Leader, and “band uniform mom”. As a Girl Scout Leader, Janice founded Troop 429 in Little Elm, Texas while also serving the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts as a volunteer. If there was ever an opportunity for her to be at the school and enhance the school experience, Janice was there. She retired as a stay-at-home mom in 2021 when Jack left for college. Janice then shifted her focus to being the best Aggie fan she could be. As a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Janice taught children’s Sunday School for many years, was a member of Women in St. Paul and was an active member of a women’s bible study group. Over the years, Janice served in volunteer roles on her Parks Board, HOA, book club, and other community organizations.

Janice is survived by her husband, Mike Weikert of Oak Point, Texas; daughter, Hannah Weikert of Oak Point, Texas; son, Jack Weikert of Oak Point, Texas; parents, Russell and Lynda Childs of Chico, Texas; sister, Sondra Childs Smith and husband Dennis of Ames, Iowa; and brother, David Childs and wife Lindsey of Chico, Texas.

Memorial contributions may be made in Janice’s memory to Denton County Friends of the Family. https://www.classy.org/give/220348/#!/donation/checkout
