Aggies who served during the Spanish-American War

"The Spanish-American war was on in 1898. ... The Senior class volunteered to the Governor of the State offering to go to the war; the Governor declined to accept our offer and advised us to stay at college and graduate," wrote Glenn Sneed, Class of 1898, in a 1953 letter copied in Texas A&M's archives.

Nevertheless, many Aggies, students and faculty volunteered; a memorial to them stands on the Corps plaza. According to "Texas Aggies Go To War" by Henry C. Dethloff, 89 Aggies served in the war, though less than half the names were recorded.

Dethloff names 38 in his book, and research has added to the list, but the roster remains incomplete. Please send any additions to AggieNetwork@AggieNetwork.com.
