Jimmy Jake Huffman
December 23, 1941 - October 13, 2024
Jimmy Jake Huffman, 82, of Carrollton, Texas, passed away from this life to eternal life with his Lord, Jesus Christ, early on the morning of October 13, 2024.
Jimmy was the third child born to Glenn Wesley Huffman and Emma Etta McHaney Huffman on December 23, 1941, in Snyder, Texas. He spent his earliest days with his family on a cotton farm, playing in the dirt and helping pick cotton. Jimmy’s early school years were during the Scurry County oil boom. Five elementary schools were built to accommodate the population growth, and Jimmy attended four of these schools.
Jimmy was always building things. Shop was his favorite class at Snyder High School where he built a fiberglass car and helped design a strip mall in Snyder. Football was his favorite sport, and he was a Snyder Tiger football player all four years of high school. However, he was very versatile. His senior year, he starred in the musical, “Annie Get Your Gun,” where he sang a solo. He was also very active in his youth group at Northside Baptist Church.
Jimmy’s dream was to attend college at Texas A&M University. As soon as he graduated from high school, he headed to Aggieland. He returned to Snyder over Christmas break to elope with his high school sweetheart, Ramona May, whom he met on a blind date arranged by Ramona’s cousin, Lou Wayne (Rogers) McQuirk. Ramona joined Jimmy at Texas A&M, and they welcomed a daughter, Pamela Ann, in 1962. After earning an engineering degree, Jimmy graduated with the Class of 1964. The family moved to Irving, Texas, and added a son, Darryl Ray in 1967.
After working in the information technology field, Jimmy started his own woodworking company manufacturing and selling frames and easels. He enjoyed painting and being part of the arts and crafts industry.
Jimmy had a passion for the beauty of God’s creation and a goal to travel to see as much of the world as possible. He also developed a love for many types of water sports, including skiing, boating, sailing, snorkeling, and diving. One time, he embarked on a solo sailing trip along the Gulf Coast from Mississippi to the Florida Keys. On his return voyage, he had to bring his boat into ports to avoid hurricanes. On another adventure, Jimmy flew to Spain and helped crew a large yacht across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. Once solo sailing became too difficult, he taught himself to paddle board and continued doing that well into his seventies.
Church attendance, fellowship, and Bible study were always a priority for Jimmy, and he passed those values to his family. He enjoyed discussing Biblical topics and sharing bits of wisdom and knowledge with others. He also wrote three books. The first discussed his theories and understanding of creation from Genesis and the others were Christian novels.
Throughout his life, Jimmy studied the Bible and sought to understand the true nature of God and His design in creating the world and humanity. Jimmy believed that the Bible gives a true account of Creation, the fall of humanity, and God’s plan to reconcile us to Himself through Jesus Christ. He felt called to learn to interpret scripture for himself rather than rely on scholars and ministers. It was important to him to challenge others he knew to do the same.
Those surviving to continue Jimmy’s legacy include his beloved wife of 62 years, Ramona Huffman; daughter, Pam Michel and her husband, Matt; brother, Glenn Huffman (wife Bette) and sister, Patsy Massey; granddaughters Mackenzie McLeod (husband Turner) and Madison Goodchild (husband Jarrett); and two great-grandchildren, Palmer McLeod and Cillian Goodchild; in addition to several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate Jimmy’s life at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Faith Chapel, Plano, Texas.
