George Ray Yourgal
August 13, 1959 - October 23, 2024
With sorrow, I share the passing of my brother, George Yourgal, on October 23, 2024, in Fayetteville, NC. Born on August 13, 1959, in Heidelberg, West Germany, George was a graduate of Denbigh High School, Class of ’77 in Newport News, Virginia and furthered his education attending Texas A & M University, College Station, Texas graduating in 1981 with a BS degree in Building Construction.
George worked for the Southeast Division of Barnhill Contracting Company in Fayetteville, N.C. as an Estimator / Project Manager for 34 years from October 1986 until his retirement in January 2021. George had an impeccable work ethic and true to Barnhill Form he did whatever it took to get the job done. He was always well prepared to discuss or present the facts of his construction projects. George had an exceptional knowledge and understanding of the construction market in which he was responsible. He would prepare project details and facts for the foremen and superintendents thus allowing for maximum project performance by all.
George was an old school Estimator / Project Manager that performed many of his estimates by old school methods even though technology was available to him. He still routinely outperformed technology.
George was extremely impatient and told you exactly what was on his mind. He could have never been accused of sugar coating anything. Anybody that worked with or dealt with George on the regular has fell victim to one of his patented tirades. He would always come to you later to make sure you were aware that he was sorry for the way he addressed you.
Most people were not aware that George had the biggest heart of any of us. There were numerous instances where George helped employees, subcontractors or whoever during times of sorrow or tragedy. George was regularly known to attend funerals and visitations of employees and others with a lower station in life than himself or other people with which he had a professional relationship. George was a good person that will be missed by all.
Known for his love of boating, socializing and his 2-Corvettes, because God knows 1 isn’t enough, George enjoyed spending time on and near the water with friends and was always eager to meet new people over a good meal and nice drink. His warm, engaging personality will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
George is survived by his brother, Robert Yourgal, sister-in-law, Deb Yourgal, of Seaford, Va., and nieces, Monica Yourgal, of Bryant, Tx. and Loren Yourgal, of West Point, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles J. Yourgal and Angela M. Yourgal, and his dog, Zackary.
A service to honor George’s life will be held at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home in Fayetteville, NC on November 8, 2024. The family will receive friends from 11 to 11:45 am, with a small service following at 12 pm, per George’s wishes he will be buried next to his Mom and Dad in Virginia. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Heart Association or charity of your choosing in his honor. The family wishes to thank Steve Waters, Reggie Zwain, Angel Rice, and other dear friends who helped George.
