William S. "Bill" Whitehead

December 21, 1954 - January 1, 2025

William Swayne Whitehead, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on January 1, 2025 in College Station, Texas. Bill was born on December 21, 1954 in Corpus Christi, Texas to parents Swayne and Jeanne Whitehead. He attended Carroll High School where he was on the football team, President of the Math Club, and formed friendships that would span the rest of his life.

Bill knew exactly what he wanted to do upon graduation and when he turned 18 he became a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He was a proud member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1977 where he earned a bachelors and a masters degree in Petroleum Engineering. Bill went on to have a successful career, extending over four decades, as a petroleum engineer, traveling all over the world as a consultant.

In 1981, Bill met his wife, Kathy McFaull, on a blind date set up between mutual friends. It was love at first sight and six months later the two were married, their marriage lasting over 43 years. Together they raised two children. Ever the devoted father, he never missed a sports game, dance recital, or show. He coached his son, Jeffrey, and daughter, Stephanie, in almost every sport they played– flag football, softball, basketball, and of course Little League, coaching Jeffrey on every Little League team from tee ball to senior league. He continued to coach and serve on the College Station Little League board for over 30 years, having an immeasurable impact on his community. One of his greatest joys was eventually coaching tee ball for his grandsons.

In retirement, Bill enjoyed going two-stepping with his wife Kathy, raising cattle and working on the family place in Cameron, Texas. He loved teaching the grandchildren to feed cows and taking them on countless joy rides through the pastures in the gator.

He is survived by his wife Kathy Whitehead, his son Jeffrey Whitehead and wife Lauren of College Station, his daughter Stephanie Berg and husband Chester of Bryan, grandchildren Liam Berg, Jackson Whitehead, James Whitehead, and Ivy Berg, his siblings Kathy Smith and husband Barney Smith, Karen Maguire and husband Walt Maguire, and David Whitehead and wife Debbie. Bill was predeceased by his parents and sister, Kathleen Walbourn.

Funeral services will be at 10am, Tuesday January 7, 2025 at Hillier Funeral Home in College Station. Visitation will be Monday January 6, 2025 6-7pm.

To honor Bill's memory, his family warmly invites donations to the American Cancer Association.
