February 12, 1945 - December 22, 2024 

Sonny Brasher, 79, of Beckville, Texas, passed away on Sunday afternoon, December 22, 2024, in Carthage, Texas. Dewey Glenn “Sonny” Brasher, Jr. was born on February 12, 1945, in Marshall, Texas to the late Dewey Glen Brasher, Sr. and Mary Edsel Pratt Brasher. He graduated as Valedictorian from Beckville High School with the class of 1963, where he excelled at many sports including starting at quarterback for the Bearcats. Sonny graduated from Kilgore College in 1965, where he played basketball and was inducted into the Kilgore College Athletic Hall of Fame and later played basketball on the semi-pro level. He continued his education at Texas A&M University, graduating in 1968, with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. Sonny continued his military service in the U.S. Marine Corp where he served 3 years during Vietnam before being honorably discharged as a 1st Lt. He married Sherian Jean Osburn on May 3, 1969, in Beckville. He worked with SWEPCO for over 30 years, retiring as the East Texas Construction Superintendent.

Sonny was very involved in the community and was a member of the Beckville Lions Club, served on and was past-president of the B.I.S.D. Board of Trustees, and served on the Panola County Appraisal Board. He loved the outdoors, and was a member of the Beckville Hunting Club for many years and was a master gardener. Sonny was a member of the Beckville Masonic Lodge #922, Sharon Temple Shrine, Waco Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Panola County Shrine Club. He was a longtime and dedicated member of the Beckville Methodist Church. He was also preceded in death by his half sister, Gayla Breeland and a niece, Lindsay Brasher.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Sherian Brasher; daughter, Sonya Brasher-Hathorn and husband Bryan; son, Brandon Clay Brasher and wife Kelly; brother, William “Bill” Brasher and wife Deborah; grandchildren, Tyler Killen and wife Mackenzie, Kaylee Madison Brasher, Clayton Kyle Brasher, and Haden Hathorn; and a great-grandchild, River Hayes Killen.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Timothy Coman officiating. Interment will follow with Military honors in Youngblood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Tyler Killen, Kyle Brasher, Tony Brasher, Royce Rieke, Larry Gill, Jr., and Cody Whiddon.

Honorary pallbearers are James Browning, Lynn Rogers, Paul Brightwell, Don Harris, Bill Harris, David Daniels, Mark Buchanan, Clifton Morris, and Cotton Broumley.
