He was also part of the ROTC Drill Team and Rifle Team where he qualified as an M1 rifles expert. Jim joined the boxing team while in the Navy as a Featherweight boxer, which was a sport he learned from his stepfather Albert “Al” Caroly growing up in Florida.
After the Navy Jim used his GI Bill to attend Texas A&M University while married to Clydette, raising 4 children in College Station and working jobs including an early morning milk route to help make ends meet. Jim graduated Texas A&M University with a Chemical Engineering degree and later attended night school at South Texas College of Law – Houston and obtained his law degree. Jim opened his own law practice in Houston and worked there with his wife Clydette until they retired and moved to their home on the Guadalupe River in Sattler Texas.
Jim was an only child and enjoyed the many family gatherings he and his wife Clydette hosted, particularly the 4th of July Celebrations at their home on the Guadalupe River. Jim and Clydette enjoyed their travels together, including New Orleans Jazz festival, numerous trips with close Aggie friends Shelby and Bridget to attend the Texas A&M football games including many out of state games; and several trips that they made together to other states and countries. Jim also found time to reunite with his Navy fellows to attend a yearly fishing trip to Alaska to fish for Salmon and Halibut. Over the years each of his sons, Ron, Rick, David and son-in-law Bart would also join the Navy group to be a part of this great adventure together.
