Johnny Glen Stansell 73 of Abilene passed away Monday November 18, 2024 in Abilene. Funeral services will be held Thursday November 21, 2024 at 12:30pm with burial to follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10am-12pm at North's Funeral Home.
Johnny Glen Stansell was born in Snyder, Texas on December 12, 1950 to Bill and Wanda (Mosely) Stansell. He is survived by his wife, Dale Stansell and their daughters, Lindsey Stansell and Cory Flippin of The Colony, Texas and their children Audrey and Connor; and Laura Merriman and Will Merriman of Anchorage, Alaska and their children, Ethan and Henry.
Johnny graduated from Fluvanna High School in 1969 where he excelled in athletics. He then attended and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1972 with a Bachelors in Dairy Science. After the dairy farm he was working on burned down in 1976, he moved to Port Pleasant, WV to work on a farm in November 1976 where he met and married Wilma Dale Atkins.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force in December 1978 and was soon recognized to be talented at computers and he was bootstrapped into an officer's training program and was commissioned into the USAF as an officer in September 1979. He was honorably discharged in 1987 to work for his father on the dairy farm in Fluvanna, Texas.
He later completed his degree in nursing in 1994 and re-commissioned into the USAF as he recognized the need was great. He served in Landstuhl, Germany and Balad, Iraq during Desert Storm in two separate tours of duty.
He retired from the military in 2007 and continued his work as a critical care nurse in Abilene, Texas until his retirement.
