James "Jimmy" Wright, Jr. 

December 24, 1935 - January 26, 2025 

James Wright, Jr., 89 of Bryan, Texas passed away on January 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Jim married his wife Millie in 1962 and celebrated 63 years of marriage. Jim graduated from Edinburg High School in 1953 and enrolled at Texas A&M University in the fall of 1954 on a football scholarship and graduated with a degree in Business Administration.

Jim’s smile would light up any room with all his aggie football stories. He was known for his strong will and determination. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.

Jim was born December 24th, 1935, to James Wright, Sr. and Jewell Irene Kenedy in Edinburg, Texas.

He was preceded in death by twin sisters and one niece.

James was a proud graduate of Texas A&M University class of '58. His time at A&M shaped much of his life, fostering his passion for football and leadership. He went on to dedicate 26 years to coaching college football, leaving a legacy with every team he mentored, Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Tennessee and then Head Football Coach at Wichita State University. He worked with the Western Company in Houston, Texas. He answered a call from Texas A&M to work in the office of School Relations in the fall of 1986 and retired from that office.

Anyone who knew Jim knew his life was centered around Millie and his children, Lonna Nelson (Rick), Jamie Chautin, Scott Wright (Cheryl), Erick Wright (Melissa), Grandchildren Ericka McCann (Matt), Daniel Minor (Christina), Nicole Sinfellow (Andrew), Michael Minor (Vicki), Peyton Kirkley (Rex), TJ Wright, Tori Wright, Grace Wright. Great grandchildren, Matty, twins Jullian and Genevieve, Remy, Hudson. Wyatt, Marly Glyn, Great- great grandchild Asher Mark McCann.

A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday February 8, 2025, at 1:30pm at Central Church (1991 FM 158 College Station, Texas)
