Morton Patrick "Pat" Mabry, Jr.
October 24, 1945 - October 2, 2024
On October 2, 2024, Morton Patrick Mabry Jr., PhD, 78, passed away in Rio Rancho, NM. Known as Dr. Pat Mabry, he was born on October 24, 1945, in Houston, TX, to Morton and Betty Mabry. Pat's educational journey began at Emmanuel Lutheran School and St. Mark Lutheran School. At the age of 14, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, a testament to his dedication and leadership. He graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1964 and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and English from Stephen F. Austin State College in 1969. Pat continued his education at Texas A&M University, obtaining a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 1973 and later a PhD in the same field in 1979.
Pat began his teaching career in 1969 at the Elkhart School District, followed by a position at Galena Park, where he taught science and math. He later transitioned to the private sector, working at Brown and Root, Hughes Tool Company, System One, and Amadeus. Ultimately, he returned to education and retired from Lonestar College.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Linda (Boggio) Mabry, along with their children, Shawn Michael (Ulyca) Mabry and Heather (Kevin) Campbell. He is also remembered by his brother, Paul (Barbara) Mabry MD, and his beloved grandchildren: Deklan Connor, Aiden Cooper and Keeva Peyton Campbell, and Mackenzie Belle Mabry.
After retirement, Pat and Linda moved to Rio Rancho, NM, in 2017. Pat loved the mountains of New Mexico, which was also the inspiration for his favorite artist Georgia O'Keeffe. He often drove around, taking pictures and decorating the walls of their home with his photography. In 2020, he published a fictional book titled My Ebenezer's and was working on a second book at the time of his passing. Pat's impact on education will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He leaves behind a loving family and a legacy that will endure in the hearts of those who loved him.
A small gathering with family and close friends will be held to remember and celebrate Pat's legacy.
