Stephen Carl Fischer, M.D.
November 11, 1956 - February 5, 2025
Dr. Stephen Carl Fischer-a compassionate physician, visionary innovator, and relentless problem solver-passed away on February 5, 2025, in Katy, Texas, at the age of 68 after a long illness.
Born in Houston, Texas, on November 11, 1956, Stephen was a proud member of the first graduating class of Texas A&M University Medical School. From the beginning, he dedicated his life to the service of others, practicing General Medicine in Spring, Texas from 1983 to 2016. His patients knew him not only for his medical expertise but also for his unwavering kindness, integrity, and deep commitment to their well-being. He was more than a doctor-he was a healer, a confidant, and a steadfast advocate for those in his care.
Stephen's impact extended far beyond the walls of his medical practice. In 2000, with the aim to save lives, he participated in the healthcare technology revolution by developing SpringCharts, an electronic medical record that transformed how medical information was managed. At its peak, SpringCharts was the third most widely used EHR in the United States and remains in use today-a lasting testament to his brilliance, perseverance, and dedication to improving patient care.
Stephen was a present and consistent family man and is survived by his daughters, Katherine Henderson and Rebecca Doherty, their husbands, Zane Henderson and Kevin Doherty, and grandson John Henderson. He is also survived by his father, Edmund Fischer; his sisters, Elizabeth Jacob and Ann Thorne; niece, Damie Oliver; and godson, Jacob Watson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Kuhn Matson.
Stephen's legacy is one of innovation, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to his work and the people he served. He will also be remembered for his sharp wit, dry humor, and the way he could make even the most serious conversations lighter with a well-timed quip. His influence will continue to ripple through the lives of the patients he cared for, the colleagues he inspired, and the industry he helped shape.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Sheryl Huebner, Amy Ogunleye, Thomas Dele, Damola Adesina, and Ayodele Idowu for their compassionate care and unwavering support.
A private family service will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Legacy Community Health - Montrose Clinic in memory of Dr. Fischer, ensuring that his commitment to serving others endures.
