John Barrett Sullivan

July 18, 1958 - January 24, 2025

John Barrett Sullivan passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, at the age of 66 in Rockport, Texas, entering the warm embrace of his Lord and Savior. Born on July 18, 1958 in Kingsville, Texas, his life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and an unwavering love for family and the outdoors.

A proud graduate of Texas A&M University at Galveston, John earned his degree summa cum laude, a reflection of his exceptional intellect and tireless work ethic. His education laid the foundation for an illustrious 44-year career in the oil and gas offshore industry, where he specialized in the design, fabrication and installation of large steel structures.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, John was a man who could fix anything and took immense pride in his ability to solve mechanical and practical problems. A true Gulf Coast fisherman, John cherished the serenity of the water and the thrill of the catch. He was also an avid hunter, who loved spending time outdoors with friends and family.

John’s greatest pride and joy was his family. A devoted friend and husband to Sean Sullivan for 45 years, he built a life filled with love, laughter and enduring partnership. Together, they raised three children: Michael (April) Sullivan, Kathleen (Felix) Pollan and David (Bethany) Sullivan. John’s legacy lives on in his three beloved grandchildren, Rebecca Ann Sullivan, Anna Kathryn Pollan and Emily Ruth Pollan, who brought him endless happiness.

He is preceded in death by his mother Kathryn Sue Hastings (Bob Davis).

He is survived by his father, Jim Sullivan (Sylvia); and his brothers, Brent (Kellee) Sullivan with niece Jesse, and Neil (Kelly) Sullivan with nephews, Ryan and Aaron. As well as sister-in-law Cathy Mackish and brothers-in-law John (Brenda) McKone and Andrew (Tara) McKone and their children. John’s memory will forever be cherished by his extended family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

John lived a life of purpose, passion and unwavering devotion to his loved ones. His remarkable legacy will continue to inspire those he leaves behind, reminding us all of the value of hard work, the joy of nature and the importance of family. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rockport on February 8th, 2025 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Coastal Conservation Association and/or the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
