John Dennis Cammer 

September 8, 1943 - November 12, 2024 

John Dennis Cammer, 81 of Texas City passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. He was born at St. Mary’s Infirmary in Galveston, Texas on September 8, 1943 to John Morgan Cammer and Corinne Dorsey Cammer.

John was a graduate of La Marque High School Tigers, Class of 1961; he attended Texas A&M University and Arlington State College. He worked as a paperboy in his younger years throwing papers off his bike. John also worked as a salesman for Borden’s and Rain Bird, he was also a night Security Guard for Texas State Parks, Lake Casa Blanco in Laredo, Texas and Goose Island State Park. John was a referee for Southwest Football Officials Association Division 1 San Antonio Chapter. He was also a Volunteer on the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi, Texas.

John loved his Aggies, fishing and sports with his children and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Karen Elizabeth Cammer and granddaughter Lauren Cammer and brother-in-law Joe Curtis. John is survived by his loving wife Diane Warren Cammer; his two sons: Timothy (Leilani) and Christopher (Diane), daughter Cindy (Lennie), stepsons: Dr. John Slaughter (Lori) and Dr. Mikale Slaughter (Melody) his eight grandchildren: Timothy (Mikane), Ben (Sara), Josiah (Lauren), Giovanni, Jackson, Creighton, Spencer, and Courtland; step grandchildren Savanah and Jude, his seven great grandchildren, sister Virginia Curtis, family friend Eleanor and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

A visitation will be on Friday, November 22, 2024 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at the Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. Funeral Service is at 9:30am on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in La Marque with Father Bob Flick and Father Bob Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas. A Reception to follow burial at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church.

Pallbearers will be Tim Cammer, Ben Cammer, Josiah Cammer, Giovanni Cammer, Jackson Cammer and Creighton Cammer. Honorary pallbearers will be Spencer Cammer, Courtland Cammer, Dr. John Slaughter, Dr. Mikale Slaughter and Bobby Morris.
