J. A. "Bubs" Loftis

September 15, 1928 - March 21, 2023

J.A. (“Bubs”) Loftis passed away March 21st, 2023 at age 94. Bubs was born in Olden, Texas on September 15, 1928, to Lem Thomas & Corine Loftis and was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and youngest daughter, Phyllis Loftis. Bubs grew up in Waxahachie where he graduated from Waxahachie High School and then went on to attend Texas A&M College serving in the Corps. He served in the Korean War earning a number of service medals and was decorated for valor with the Bronze Star. Bubs spent his career as Production Manager at Owens Country Sausage for 24 years earning accolades of many throughout his time there.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Browning (m. October 18, 1952), children – Thomas Loftis (spouse Kay), Anita Maples (spouse Mack), five grandchildren – Andreia Waggoner (Josh), Kimberly Loftis (Daniel), Byron Wilcher (Melissa), Eric Loftis and Afton Wood (Ryan), as well as seven great grandchildren – Kendall, Landon, Callahan, Maisie, Jaxton, Jensen and Colette.

Bubs was a loving father, uncle, grandfather and friend. Many would describe Bubs as easy going, light hearted, kind and humorous – he would often greet you with a smile and jovial persona. Bubs enjoyed working the land, raising cattle and loved to fish with his family. He was a devoted Christian serving on the North Texas Council for the United Methodist Church and spending much of his time aiding all around the globe in outreach to spread The Gospel to many. His outreach took him to places in Africa, Mexico and Honduras. It was in those places that he built many relationships by serving others and ministering by spreading the Good News.

A special thanks goes out to Marcy, Kelly, Sheila, Michael, Becky, Mandy and all the caregivers and staff at Monarch Hospice and The Heritage at Twin Creeks senior living center for their tedious care.

Funeral services will be held on April 6th, 2023 at 10:00 in the morning at Scoggins Funeral Home, 637 W Van Alstyne Parkway, Van Alstyne, as well as a full military memorial starting at 3:00 in the afternoon at Dallas - Fort Worth National Cemetery located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas.
