Carolyn (Elum) Mills Dennett
November 18, 1953 - April 20, 2023
Carolyn Elum Mills Dennett, age 69, who resided in Ogden, UT, entered into Heaven on the afternoon of April 20, 2023. Cause of death was due to complications from a Stroke.
Carolyn was born in Houston, TX on November 18,1953 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, to O. D. Elum and Fannie Mae Smith. Her father was in the construction business and her mother was a teacher in the Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. Carolyn also attended school in the Cy-Fair District where she graduated with honors. She went on to Texas A & M University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education.
Shortly thereafter, Carolyn entered the bonds of holy matrimony and became Mrs. Mills. Carolyn gave birth to her first child, Rochelle on July 2, 1972. Also, at the same time, she landed a job in the Houston I.S.D. where she won the Distinguished Teaching Fellowship. Carolyn also pursued endorsements in Reading, ESL, Math and Science, while attending Texas Southern University, and Houston Community College. After divorce, Carolyn moved to Austin with Rochelle, where she landed a teaching position in the Austin I.S.D. and pursued a math and science position at Bedicheck Middle School, teaching 8th grade science. There she met Stanley Dennett and they married on the River Walk in San Antonio. Stanley had two daughters from a previous marriage, Angelia and Karin. Carolyn soon gave birth to Kristi on January 30, 1989. After which Carolyn soon attended Texas State working on a Master Degree in Psychology.
Carolyn enjoyed life in Austin, TX, and joined the LSD Church along with Rochelle and Kristi. As time passed, divorce broke the family apart. Eventually, Carolyn and Rochelle along with Kristi moved to Utah and started a new life. Carolyn didn't waste any time and found a career as a case manager at Enable Industries, assisting disabled individuals with their independence, life and work skills. Carolyn even attended Weber State University in pursuit of a degree in Criminal Justice. She also took courses in the Paralegal field from Bryant & Stratton College.
Carolyn is survived by Rochelle and Kristi and a beloved grandson, Maze. She is also survived by siblings: Rosoline, Randy, Angelia and Yvette.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her loving mother, Ms. Fannie Mae Smith, and O. D. Elum, her father, and her maternal and paternal grandparents, James Smith & Fannie Mae Lefall and Mattie Vance & Otto H. Elum, Uncle Oliver E. Smith, Aunt Vivian Smith and beloved Uncle Henry & Aunt Myrtle Roger.
