Gary Ray Hansen

December 25, 1956 - December 22, 2024

Gary Ray Hansen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away in his home on December 22, 2024, just days before his 68th birthday. Born on Christmas Day in 1956 to Eleanor and the late Eugene Hansen, he was affectionately known as the "white sheep" of the family.

Gary's love for the land began early; at five, he convinced his mother to delay his start in kindergarten so he could work at the Hansen Ranch. After serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Chicago he pursued research in animal science, earning Bachelor and Masters degrees from Brigham Young University and eventually a PhD from Texas A&M University.

He married Ruth Bobo on June 5, 1981, and together they raised five children across Texas, Florida and North Carolina. He was a dedicated disciple of Christ who served as Branch President, Bishop, Scout Master, and Temple Worker. His love of the gospel was apparent to all who knew him.

Returning home to Joseph City, AZ after almost 30 years, he continued his ranching legacy. He was never happier than he was with his wife, children, grandchildren and cattle. Especially when they were all on the ranch together. He is survived by his wife Ruth, children Kourtney Rivera (Juan), Jackie Packard (Jason), Jesse Hansen (Tanya), Lindy Allen (Cory), Sam Hansen (Kelsee), grandchildren Jefferson Packard, Jane Packard, Nathaniel Hansen, Amelia Allen, Jameson Packard, Evelyn Hansen, Benjamin Allen, Reese Hansen, Ezra Rivera, Jens Packard, Thomas Hansen, Eliza Allen, Claire Hansen, Logan Hansen, Andrew Hansen, Nicole Hansen, mother Eleanor, and siblings Gale Hansen (Anna, deceased), Cheryl Tysseling (Tom), Lillian Neal (Brad), Julie Randall (Blaine), Derron Hansen (Cat), Clarence Hansen (Trina).

Visitation will be Monday, January 6, 2025 8:30-9:45 with service starting at 10am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will follow at Joseph City Cemetery.
