Kevin Patrick Costigan
March 15, 1971 - June 19, 2023
Kevin left us all way too soon at the age of 52 in Dallas, Texas. He was the youngest born to Pat & Susie who were surprised and thrilled to welcome a baby boy into their family. His older sisters, Beth and Amy loved him dearly. Kevin grew up being paraded around the neighborhood by them in dresses & bows, and getting into any trouble he could find. Beth & Amy were quick to tattle on their baby brother’s antics, but just as quick to beg Mom & Dad not to punish him too hard. He was whip smart, a sports fanatic, and determinately independent.
Growing up, playing sports was his singular passion. From the age of five, Kevin played soccer, baseball, basketball and football. Pat was right along with him as this was his greatest passion as well and the two of them have the best memories of being together during this time.
When Kevin was 14, he started working at the Cooper Aerobics Center. He became a beloved staff member as he continued to work there until he was 20. He had many responsibilities including working the front desk, doing the laundry and overseeing the locker rooms. The Cooper Clinic was a who’s who of Dallas’ most well-known sports and public figures.
He attended A&M University for his freshman year of college, fulfilling a childhood dream and had fond memories of participating in the Corps of Cadets. Although he made an A+ in two-stepping, he returned home to Richland Junior College following his first year, eventually graduating from University of Texas at Dallas in 2000.
Kevin met Kim when he was 20 years old. They dated for five years before getting married in 1996. Samantha Catherine was born June 4, 1998, Jillian Steele was born April 12, 2001 and Nicholas Mawson completed their family on December 15, 2003.
Most of his professional working career he spent in Healthcare Information Technologies for Travelers, Perot Systems and Dell. He was certainly everyone’s go to person in the family for all insurance and IT related questions.
Kevin loved nothing more on earth than his three children and was a devoted father to each of them. He coached every soccer team for Samantha, Jillian and Nick and continued his coaching career through Nick’s early years of t-ball and baseball. He never missed any choir concert, theater production or sporting event and probably knew more Broadway musical soundtracks than any other Dad. Kevin was immeasurably proud of the kids and supported their every endeavor. Kevin was well known amongst the kids’ friends as being the best Dad Joke Teller and always having the best food ready to serve to whoever walked in the door.
His genuine heart and loving disposition were incredibly evident to all who knew him. Kevin always had the biggest smile on his face and was always the friendliest person in the room. He cared more about others than himself and was there with a helping hand whenever called upon.
Even though he couldn’t carry a tune (his words), no one loved music like him. He loved discovering new talent and sharing it with everyone. Among some of his favorites were The Eagles, Elton John, Steve Wariner and of course, Sam Costigan.
Kevin is survived by his parents, Pat and Susie; his family Kim, Samantha, Jillian and Nick Costigan; his sister Beth and her family Randy, Patrick, Caroline and Brendan Herring; his sister Amy and her family Randy, Kelly and Jack Savoy; his Uncle Mike and Suzanne Costigan as well as many other beloved Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
