February 4, 1936 - March 19, 2025 

Jack Andrew Haney, age 89, of Garland, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025. 

Jack was born in Greenville, Texas, on February 4, 1936, the second-youngest of six siblings. He attended Mt. Pleasant High School, where he played football. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-61, then earned a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University, followed by a master's degree in English from the University of North Texas.

He married Dolores Stracener in 1961, and they remained married until her death in 2008. After a time teaching high school English in Carrollton, Jack took an entry level job at Republic National Life Insurance, moved with his family to Garland, and rose through the company over the next three decades to Senior Executive Vice President upon his retirement in 1998.

Jack was known as a friendly, outgoing man who took an interest in everyone he met, and was always full of stories about his friends and colleagues from every walk of life. He always put his family first, ensuring they had all they needed to thrive and succeed, was active in his church and community, and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Jack is survived by two sons, Jason and Aaron, three grandchildren, Clay, Sabrina, and Jack, and long time friend Gay Spears. Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Garland, Texas, on Wednesday, April 2, at 2:00 pm. Donations in memory of Jack may be made to the North Texas Food Bank.
