Paul Thompson Schreiber
May 29, 1956 - March 23, 2025
Paul Thompson Schreiber, 68, of North Richland Hills passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025. Gone too soon, his passing will leave a large void in his family, friends and extended synthesizer community.
Paul was born in Beaumont, TX on May 29, 1956 to Bert and Billie Schreiber. They lived in a hotel in downtown Beaumont that was owned by his grandparents, Carl and Nellie Schreiber. After welcoming sister, Janie, they moved to Bellaire, TX where sister, Jo Ellen's birth completed the family. Paul enjoyed playing baseball, boy scouts, attending Sunday school and swimming in the community pool. His maternal grandmother, Elle Mae Bowers, was a tower of spiritual strength and taught Paul about God's love.
The family moved again to Spring, TX in 1969, where Paul graduated from high school in 1974. Heading off to his beloved Texas A&M, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1979. While at A&M he co-oped for Tandy Corporation in Fort Worth where fate would lead him to the love of his life. He returned to Tandy after graduation and worked in the exciting and developing era of personal electronics and computers. He added to his education with a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from SMU in 1992. He holds 12 patents for his design work while at Tandy. Paul continued to work in the consumer electronics and cellular phone industry until his retirement in 2023.
Paul met Tammy at Tandy in 1983 where Tammy was working as a technical writer. Tammy was drawn to his quick wit, humor, love of God and family and their shared love of Texas A&M. They married in 1984, added Carly and Scott to their family and settled in North Richland Hills.
Whether coaching Scott and kids from church in soccer and basketball or supporting Carly's extracurricular activities - even winning Dixie Belle Father/Daughter dancing team of the week for his impressive moves of the field, Paul relished family life. Being a husband and father was Paul's greatest joy.
Paul's passion for electronic music that started in junior high school grew into a world-renown synthesizer business. The outpouring of memorials from the worldwide community of friends, partners, colleagues and synth lovers who appreciated his big heart, talents, stories and wit are a great comfort to the family. He was regarded as an elder member and an amazing innovator in the synth world. He mentored many young enthusiasts of electronic music, helping them to grow and succeed in the industry. He loved attending the yearly Knobcon convention and seeing his friends face to face. He would be pleased to know he helped so many along the way.
Paul and Tammy spent their empty nest years traveling the world, watching Aggie football and spending time with family and friends from The Hills Church and Legacy Church of Christ. Paul loved a good church potluck lunch; his last outing was the monthly potluck at Legacy.
Paul is survived by his wife of 41 years, Tammy; daughter, Carly; son, Scott and daughter-in-law, Victoria; sisters, Janie Mitcham (Stuart) and JoEllen Gill (Rob); and a host of extended family and church friends who played such an important part in his life.
