Eugean Hinze

September 16, 1954 - February 1, 2023

Eugean Hinze was born in Houston Texas on September 16, 1954 to parents Alma and Willie Hinze. He was the sixth of seven children all redheaded except for Eugean who had dark hair and had a dark complexion.

Eugean grew up in Rosehill on the Treseler homestead and farm which was established in 1905. From a young age he helped on the farm picking vegetables, shelling corn and feeding chickens. There was also fun times swimming in the pond, jumping in haystacks and corn cob and Chinaberry fights.

Eugean attended Tomball Lutheran School through eighth grade then attended Tomball High School graduating in May 1972. He then graduated from Blinn College in 1974, worked at Cameron Iron Works for one year before attending Texas A&M University graduating in May 1977 with an Agronomy Degree.

His first job was with USDA Forestry Services and then the USDA Grain Inspection Services at the Port of Houston. In 1981 he began working for TDA as a Weights and Measures Inspector, then working as a TDA Pesticide Inspector advancing to Lead Inspector up to a Senior Inspector. For many years he worked at the TDA Booth at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

After retirement, Eugean continued farm work. He enjoyed hosting family gatherings, BBQ’s, fish fries, weddings, and parties. It was not a party without Eugean; his humor and jokes were priceless. He was usually accompanied by his dogs Gretchen or Jenny who waited for his return whenever he was gone. He was active in the Rosehill Volunteer Fire Department serving as treasurer for a number of years. He enjoyed the annual family trips to Schlitterbahn, Tomball Cougars football, high school football playoff games and was a “Love You Blue Oilers” fan. He also enjoyed hunting and socializing at the deer lease. At Christmas time, Eugean loved caroling to Rosehill shut-ins which had become a tradition with special friends.

He grew up as a member of Salem Lutheran Church where he was baptized on February 23, 1958 and confirmed on April 7, 1968. He served as an usher and was active in men’s club. He later transferred to Zion Lutheran Church. His faith was strong and he knew with God all things were possible. After his serious injuries in September 2022, he definitely knew God as his protector!! During his 106 day recovery he was a true witness for God; telling anyone who asked what happened, in detail, followed by the statement that “God must have a plan for me”.

Eugean was certainly one-of-a-kind; faithful, generous, hardworking, funny, caring and that huge smile was priceless.

Eugean is survived by brothers Willie Hinze(Christine) of Winston-Salem, NC; Douglas Hinze of Tomball, TX; and Howard Hinze of Bastrop, TX; sisters Emma Virion(Joseph) of Spring, Tx; Ameera Wilkie(David) of Bullard, TX, Dawn Miller of Tomball, TX and Mary Joyce(Vincent) of Fort Worth, TX.
