Bill Leftwich '45 May 29, 2009 12:00 AM

William J. 'Bill' Leftwich '45, 85, of Fort Davis (formerly of Duncan, Okla.) died April 27, 2009. He was a tank commander in the 92nd Armored Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, 12th Armored Division of the U.S. Army in the European theater during World War II. He was awarded the Silver Star. He was an author, lecturer and artist. He wrote The Corps at Aggieland in 1976 (Smoke Signal Publ. Co., Lubbock). Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Alice; two sons, Tim J. Leftwich '71 and Paul M. Leftwich '84; two daughters; 14 grandchildren, including Vanessa M. (Leftwich) Cupak '04; 24 great-grandchildren; and a sister. Memorials may be made to the Texas A&M Foundation, Mary Alice and Bill Leftwich Memorial, Corps of Cadet s Scholarship Fund, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station TX 77840-2811.
